AIRLIFE provides unique services to a large ruralarea in addition to providing critical care transport services to the Denvermetropolitan area. Rural constituents have limited access to specializedservices. The rapid access and critical care services provided by AIRLIFEduring transport to higher levels of care have significantly improved patientoutcomes for the rural communities. AIRLIFE serves a ten-state region including Colorado, Wyoming,Montana, Nebraska, Kansas, New Mexico, Utah, Arizona, Texas and South Dakota.Helicopter transports achieve a 150-mile radius from our various bases, whilefixed wing aircraft enable AirLife crews to transport up to a 500-miles. Airambulance licensure is maintained in both Colorado and Wyoming, which are hometo our operational and crew bases.

Here is some of whatyou can expect from being an AirLife Flight Registered Nurse with us:

  • The critical care transport nurse demonstratesadvanced knowledge, skills and understands the unique aspects of the populationserved in the care of his/her patients.
  • Each service also requires specialized skills.The delivery of care is based on the physical, psychosocial, cultural, safetyand learning needs of the individual patient.
  • The RN may rotate to areas other than his/herassigned service area/s, and will perform only those duties for which he/shehas demonstrated competency.
  • The RN performs delegated duties consistent withthe scope of practice and functions within the philosophy and overall plan ofcare delivery at AirLife.
  • They utilize the experience, education andtraining to independently deliver nursing care to critically ill and/or injuredpatients aboard a variety of fixed wing aircraft, rotor wing aircraft andground ambulances.
  • Transports may be between medical facilities ordirectly from the scene of an accident or illness. Assists with marketingactivities of program. Supports research projects.
DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: Safety
  • The critical care transport RN demonstratesawareness of and routinely practices safe work habits and adheres to theAirLife commitment to Safety. Adheres to current AirLife standards for clinicalcompetence.
  • Coordinates all aspects of patient care with theinterdisciplinary team, including students when appropriate.
  • Responsible for critical care transportknowledge base including flight physiology, flight stressors and safety for allmodes of transport and all environments.
  • Responsible for survival training and skills forenvironmental extremes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Practice
  • Delivers care in accordance with establishedstandards of care/scope of practice.
  • Provides direct patient care.
  • Documents care thoroughly, accurately, andconcisely and in a timely manner.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patients andrecords in accordance with AirLife, Hospital and HIPAA policies and guidelines.
  • Must attend 80% of scheduled monthly staffmeetings. Review of any missed staff meeting must be completed within onemonth. Months with holidays on those dates FSM will be altered todifferent date and prior notification will be given to teams.
  • Professional Development/Self Growth.
  • Must acquire program-defined number ofcontinuing education hours per year and designated number of clinical hours indesignated categories.
  • Maintains proficiency in clinical skillsspecific to critical care medicine and as defined in clinical skills.
  • Recognizes own strengths and weaknesses andseeks help from appropriate sources as needed.
  • Takes initiative to share knowledge obtainedfrom online training, conferences and workshops.
  • Participates in AirLife committees as directedby the Clinical Director, Chief Flight Nurse, Managers, and Medical Director/s.
