This position supports the mission of The Medical Center of Aurora/Centennial Medical Plaza of optimizing quality of life of all those served by expanding beyond the traditional focus on medical needs to the needs of the whole person. The Orthopedic Nurse Practitioner (NP) exemplifies professional nursing practice through expert education, consultation, research, practice, and management/leadership activities. The NP is a leading nurse expert in their field of work. In a collaborative manner, the NP will follow the patient through the continuum in the inpatient setting that includes daily rounding and ensuring adherence to quality measures. He/She will assist in collection of data that will assist in process improvement.
1.Obtain and document complete medical history and physical examination of patients.
2.Interpret and integrate data to determine and order appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures or specialty referrals.
3.Manage medical and surgical needs of patients in accordance with scope of practice and established credentialing agreements.
4.Reconcile patient medication and allergies. Assess patients understanding and address any barriers to medication and therapeutic compliance.
5.Administer medications and injections according to established practice protocols and perform other clinical functions as needed.
6.Provide patient education. Interview and advise patients regarding health and illness prevention. Recommend community resources to meet patient and family needs. Educate patient and family regarding medications and treatment options and corresponding instructions.
7.Maintain and review patient records, charts, and other pertinent information. Post tests and examination results according to practice policy. Documents in a timely fashion.
8.Triage patient telephone calls and provide consultation. Provide monitoring and continuity of care between provider visits.
9.Assist management in onboarding nursing staff and provide competency checks as directed.
10.Maintain active medical staff privileges at all facilities where Nurse Practitioner provides medical care to patients.
11.Participate in all appropriate practice procedures to include medical team rounding and huddles. Collaborate with nursing, allied health and other non-clinical healthcare professionals to ensure continuity and quality patient care.
12.Assist with and facilitate discharge planning.
13.Comply with outpatient and inpatient quality program guidelines such as PCMH (Patient Centered Medical Home), PQRS Physician Quality Reporting System, Core Measures, Risk Reductions, etc. as required by work setting.
14.Participate in after-hours call as required by work setting.
15.Maintain complete and accurate medical records in a timely manner.
16.Complete patient charge and billing in a timely manner as required by work setting.
17.Promote patient satisfaction in all clinical settings.
18.Renew all required licenses and complete required educational courses timely.
19.Attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested.
20.Maintain patient confidentiality.
21.Maintain professional level of conduct regarding attitude and communication with staff and patients.
22.Perform other duties as required.
23.Understand and adhere to prescribing and scope of practice regulations as required by state.
24.Read, understand and adhere to all HCA Physician Services Policies and Procedures.
25.Practice and adhere to the Code of Conduct and Mission and Values Statements.
