Client is seeking an innovative Cost Engineer to join their Project team to support the development of an internal cost estimate, interrogate the EPC contract cost estimate for the $1B+ lump sum project, and support Cost Controls reporting and Departmental budget tracking. The Cost Engineer shall have Cost Control, Estimating, Benchmarking, and Commercial Negotiation expertise. This individual will work with the Project Management Leadership and Engineering Team and the EPC Contractor's Estimating Team.

Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Developing the basis and structure of the internal estimate of the EPC Lump Sum Contract, which will carry over into the final Estimate format from the EPC Contractor
    • Negotiating the structure and basis of the Lump Sum Estimate with the EPC Contractor
    • Overseeing the implementation of the agreed upon estimate structure
  • Developing Owner's Cost estimate for the EPC project
  • Interrogating the details of the EPC Contractor's Estimate and identifying areas of the Estimate that could be inflated and require further negotiation
    • Evaluating quantity takeoff development from drawings, specifications, and other related documentation
  • Benchmarking previous EPC Estimates revisions and Internal Estimate against IHS/CEII/other relative data sources
  • Developing Cost Reports (in conjunction with Project Scheduler) for summary in Project Controls Reports including Internal and External reporting
    • Tracking of Departmental budget and updating other Capital Project portions of the Owner's Cost
  • Monitoring, accessing, and analyzing of EPC Contractor's Cost Reports

Cost Engineer Required Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience in Heavy Industry/Petrochemical Project Controls functions
  • Cost Engineering experience on large scale projects ($500M+)
  • Cost Estimating experience on large scale, lump sum projects ($500M+)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access)
  • Collaborative management and leadership skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

Cost Engineer Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related fields
  • Cost Engineering experience on Mega Projects ($1B+)
  • Cost Estimating experience on large scale projects ($1B+)
  • Experience in Procore and InEight

Reporting Relationship:
  • Individual contributor reporting to Project Services Manager

Work Location & Hours:
  • Combination of Overland Park, KS office and EPC Contractor's Lenexa, KS office
  • 100% remote work not available
